Madrid Spain 2007

These #photographs are from James' stay in Madrid, Spain in 2007.

The galleries below are from 3 days in Madrid before James commenced study at Tandem Madrid. During that time he was a guest of Federico Hernandez Plasencia near Segovia.

Each day Fede worked in Madrid and so James was able to spend the days exploring the city with his camera hence the galleries include daylight and nighttime images.

Madrid's architecture makes it one of the most glorious Cities in Europe. The Old World building now used as the Post Office and the Metropolis edifice which, given the story is they were built using hammers and chisels in an age of horse and carts, makes them truly miraculous.

The closely packed inner city contains Puerta del Sol is a famous and historic square in Madrid, where many of the city's streets and roads meet. It features a clock, a bear statue, a fountain and a monument to King Charles III and is a great meeting point that is close to restaurants and night life.

We would like to give thanks for Federico and for his kind and generous hospitality. Fede helped James over a number of small hurdles during his first days in Madrid so we thank him for his advice and Fede was an excellent tour advisor in the days when James' Spanish was "muy basico"!

Above and Below: This was Day One in Madrid featuring the old world architecture of the city centre.

Above and Below: Day Two included construction photos of New High Rise buildings and some cool Art Nouveau buildings.

Above and Below: From Basket Ball to Hairspray and finishing with photos of the AIDS Memorial ‘Chueca An Dante’, located in the car park under Pedro Zerolo square. The design was inspired by the Divine Comedy of Dante.

The Gallery, Above, contains curated camera proofs for narrative context and your viewing pleasure.

Dante's Quote Translation.

Amor que amar obliga al que es amado, me ata a tus brazos con placer tan fuerte que, como ves, ni aún muerto me abandona.

"Love, that to love compels the one who is loved, binds me to your arms with such strong pleasure that, as you see, even in death it does not leave me".
