These #photographs are from the Sapmi Park Cultural Centre and the Sami Parliament of Norway at Karasjok in 2007 plus a small gallery of images from Malung in Sweden!
The opportunity to learn about the Sami culture was very welcome. The Sapmi Park was a chance to meet Sami in person and learn more about their culture including food and clothing. We saw Reindeer Alive and on our plates in the food display! If you are driving by this is well worth the effort to visit.
On the other hand the Sami Parliament was an opportunity to understand the place of Sami in the Region and to learn about the history and ongoing struggles of indigenous people in Norway.
One of the interesting aspects of the drive back to Oslo from Nord Kapp is that the road south crosses over into Finland before going via Sweden. Finn-Henry was in a hurry to return home because he needed to return to work and James had a ticket to ride the train to Copenhagen!
We would like to thank Finn-Henry Eltorn for his hospitality in Oslo and for the opportunity to see so much of Norway!

"The Sámi Parliament of Norway (Norwegian: Sametinget, Northern Sami: Sámediggi [ˈsaːmeˌtiɡːiː], Lule Sami and Pite Sami: Sámedigge, Ume Sami: Sámiediggie, Southern Sami: Saemiedigkie, Skolt Sami: Sääʹmteʹǧǧ) is the representative body for people of Sámi heritage in Norway. It acts as an institution of cultural autonomy for the Sami people of Norway.
The parliament opened on 9 October 1989 and its seat is in the village of Kárášjohka (Karasjok) in Kárášjohka Municipality in Finnmark county. It currently has 39 representatives, who are elected every four years by direct vote from 7 constituencies. The last election was in 2021. Unlike the neighboring Sámi Parliament of Finland, the 7 constituencies cover the entire country. The current president is Silje Karine Muotka who represents the Norwegian Sámi Association.[1]"
According to their website "In Sápmi Park you can experience Sami culture and history in an entertaining and engaging way. There are interesting activities in Sápmi Park every day from 19 June–13 August".
