These #photographs are from Newcastle Under Lyme (Stoke on Trent) in the UK taken from the 11th to the 15th of May in 2004.
James remembers this time as a short time in which to have a relaxing time prior to the commencement of School in Edinburgh and so he arrived to stay with Karl Weaver who he had been a tour guide for in Sydney Australia in 2003!
The portraits taken during this time show evidence of a confidence with what was then new digital technology. The photographs also demonstrate the emergence of James' particular style of image making in regards to landscapes and people. Please note, we've included the garden photograph camera proof "doubles and extras" for the summer colour that is bright and cheerful.
James would like to acknowledge the hospitality given to him by Karl and the friendship of Lee. It was more than just the chance to wash clothes and have home cooked meals etc because in looking back on these photographs it's clear that this image making time was a great photography development period.
