These original #photographs were taken in Paris, France on 13th to the 15th of June 2004.
Paris is a lovely city albeit a bit crumbling. It's almost as if the French do not know how to maintain the glorious old world buildings they have inherited. The most difficult thing in 2004 and 2007 was that most of the locals, even those employed in service industries, do not like to speak English, even if they do understand it.
The problem is if folks might be in France for 5 days out of a 3 month tour of the EU/UK so doing a intensive French language course before going is probably not very cost effective. If you have a good language translator, practice a few key phrases plus knowing your travel destinations in French is good and make sure you throw around as much high school French as you can so they think you are trying.
It's good to walk the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe then it's an easy stroll to the Eiffel Tower located on the Champ de Mars. If you haven't been to the top then it's worth taking your camera up and the view is spectacular.
The Art Galleries are often closed one day during the week so make sure you check out the opening times and purchase your tickets beforehand to avoid the long lines of people! The Pompidou Centre for Contempory Art is well worth a visit even to stand outside and see the striking post modern architecture.
A Boat Cruise along the Seine River is a jolly enjoyable thing to do. If you are pressed for time you can catch the Ferry from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame Cathedral which is a very pleasant journey. From there you can make your way to The Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur which offers fabulous old world architecture and stunning views of the City. Moulin Rouge is not far away so go here first before you confess your sins at Sacré-Cœur!
James's stayed at the Timhotel's Palais Royal at 3 Rue de la Banque in the 2nd Arr which is close to the Stock Exchange, the Palais Royal, the Louvre Museum, Châtelet and Rue Montorgueil. The cleaning staff were very good. From there it's an easy walk to the Notre Dame precinct and it's close to restaurants & night time entertainments.
